  Memorial Day, a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation's foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women.

  Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a "Memorial Day Order" issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

Errol Bradley is the longtime owner and an agent of his State Farm Insurance office, since 1969. He was born and raised in Biloxi and appreciates the city’s culture and history. When talking with him, it is evident of his joy in being a Biloxian. Walk into the Errol Bradley State Farm office on Reynoir Street and you are instantly enveloped in the history of Biloxi. Every wall in the building is lined with framed black-and-white photos of old Biloxi, telling the story of seafood factories, Blessing of the Fleet, the aftermath of Hurricane Camille, and the Hermit of Deer Island, to name a few. “These photos in my office, I have collected throughout the years,” Bradley said. “It’s all old Biloxi, many things that we have lost because of the devastation from hurricanes.”

Errol has been active in many community organizations including Past President Biloxi Jaycees, Biloxi Rotary Club Past President, and Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce. Active in the Biloxi Yacht Club and serves on the Board of Merit Health Systems. An active parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Church, he participates in Salvation Army’s bell ringer program and worked with the Biloxi Mullet Brigade supporting our military service-members, veterans, and families and United States Air Force Thunderbirds at Keesler Air Force Base for their Air Show and events.

Errol has served the community with projects such as replanting the twelve palms dedicated to twelve citizens of Biloxi who died in WWI, establishing a scholarship program, coordinated with the Biloxi Bay Chamber, the relocation of the BILOXI arch sign to the Town Green, obtained the original key to the Light House and it is on display at the Visitor’s Center. He established a marker and grave-site in the Biloxi Cemetery for the Hermit of Deer Island, and “The Biloxi History Cruise” that sails twice a year on the original Pan American Clipper. I am always looking to preserve Biloxi’s history. These qualities and a lengthy list of civic causes are a few of the reasons why Errol Bradley has been chosen as the 2017 Biloxi Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Lions Club.
